How To Tame Dry Hair

Keeping your hair shiny, soft and healthy gets exponentially more difficult when the weather gets warmer. Lack of moisture and increased heat styling spell double trouble for dry, fragile hair. Here's how to rescue sun ravaged locks.

1. Replenish lost moisture.

Dry hair is a result of lack of moisture, both in the air and in your body. Tackle the problem from both the inside out and the outside in. Be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water a day and use a hydrating daily conditioner, plus a weekly mask.  We like: KMS Moistrepair and Redken Real Control Intense Renewal Moisturizing Mask.

2. Avoid over-using heat styling tools.

When your hair is dehydrated and brittle, the last thing you want to do is fry it even more with a flat iron or blowdryer. If you need to use a flat iron or a curling iron, wash your hair the night before and let it dry naturally so you can skip the blow dryer in the morning.

3. Get your hair cut regularly.

In these tough economic times everyone is trying to scrimp on the little luxuries, but a bi-monthly trim is worth it. This will eliminate beat-up ends so your hair will look shinier and healthier. You’ll only need to take a smidge off to get great results.

4. Be consistent.

There's no quick fix for damaged hair and it can take anywhere from three to six months to fully heal dried out tresses. That means you’ll need to be diligent about your recovery routine in order to see real results.
